Tofu Sisig Recipe (No Sizzling Plate)

This no-meat sisig recipe is perfect way for vegetarians to enjoy the flavors of the sisig.

This homemade recipe of Tofu sisig can be made without using a sizzling plate. Made with fried tofu mixed with mayonnaise, oyster sauce, bell pepper, white onion, garlic, and green chili pepper.

Homemade Tofu sisig procedure

     In cooking tofu sisig, first slice the tofu into cubes. Then place tofu in a strainer and dip it in the pan to deep fry until it gets golden brown in color. Remove strainer from oil and drain the tofu for excess oil.

     In a larger pan, heat oil. Sauté the onion, then add garlic. Once onion is translucent and garlic is golden brown, add in bell pepper. Season with a dash of black pepper then mix. Add in mayonnaise and mix. Add 2 tbsp water and mix well. Add another 2 tbsps of water and continue mixing. Put in oyster sauce, mix, then season with salt as needed. Add in fried tofu and mix until it is well combined with the sauce. Top with sliced green chili, remove from heat, serve and enjoy.

do we need to press the tofu after draining it with water?

 Not necessarily but still, it is better to be pressed if you want a much crispier tofu result.

where can we buy tofu?

Tofu can be bought both in groceries and supermarkets as well as in local public markets.

can we use toho?

Definitely yes. However, it is less firm than the firm tofu, but still you can use toho.

cooking tips:

  • If desired, you can srinkle with calamansi juice and mix it to contrast the rich creaminess of the dish.
  • Tofu is added in the last part of cooking the dish to maintain its crispiness. Better served hot to enjoy the crisp.
  • You can also use butter in sautéing for a more rich flavor.
  • Use the firm tofu variant and not the silky soft one.

Ingredients

  • 4 pcs tofu
  • 1 pc white onion chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic chopped
  • 1 pc green bell pepper chopped
  • 1 pc green chili pepper sliced
  • 1 pack mayonnaise 80ml
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 4 tbsp water
  • salt
  • black pepper
  • cooking oil

Instructions

  • Heat 2 to 3 cups of cooking oil in a pan.
  • Place tofu in a strainer and dip it in the pan to deep fry until it gets golden brown in color.
  • Remove strainer from oil and drain the tofu for excess oil.
  • Heat oil in a larger pan.
