Tikoy Turon with Cheese Recipe ( Merienda Menu )

Tikoy turon with cheese is a merienda recipe wherein Nian gao, a delicious Chinese New Year’s cake is cooked with a twist by incorporating it with a famous Filipino snack, turon and adding cheese for a much tasty flavor.

This merienda recipe is very easy and fast to make. Start off by slicing the cheese and nian gao, wrapping it in lumpia wrapper and finally, frying it in oil.

HOW TO COOK Tikoy Turon with Cheese Recipe ( Merienda Menu )

     In making tikoy turon with cheese, start by slicing  the nian gao/ tikoy and cheese into sticks. Next, separate lumpia wrapper into individual pieces. To assemble, lay a wrapper on a flat surface. Place a nian gao and cheese stick on the mid lower part of the wrapper. Fold the bottom edge of the wrapper over the tikoy and cheese then fold both sides of towards the nian gao and cheese. Roll the wrapper towards the top edge. Wet the top edge of the wrapper with water to seal the turon. Repeat wrapping procedures for the rest of the nian gao, cheese and wrapper.

     To cook, heat a pan with oil in medium fire. Once oil is hot, deep fry turon until it turns golden brown. Drain for excess oil. Transfer to a plate, serve and enjoy.

where to buy lumpia wrappers?

In this recipe we used freshly cooked lumpia wrappers which can be bought in Local Public Markets. However, they can also be bought in groceries and supermarkets but it’s either chilled or frozen.

can we use flavored nian gao?

Yes, but make sure that the nian gao’s flavor goes well together with cheese.

Tips on Cooking this recipe

  • For best results use freshly cooked lumpia wrappers (not the frozen one from groceries)
  • You can add langka strips if desired.

  • 500 grams Nian Gao / Tikoy
  • 165 grams Cheese
  • 20-24 pieces Lumpia Wrapper
  • Cooking Oil for deep frying
  • Water for sealing
