SWEET AND SOUR PORK RECIPE

A tangy sweet tasting dish that is very satisfying, this sweet and sour pork recipe will surely be enjoyed in anyone’s dining table. This dish is made up of crispy fried  breaded pork cutlets tossed in a delicious sweet and sour sauce. 

Start cooking this elegant dish like a pro just by simply marinating the pork cutlets, coating it with flour, fying it and mixing it in an easy to make sweet and sour sauce with bell peppers and spices.

HOW TO COOK SWEET AND SOUR PORK RECIPE

      Start cooking sweet and sour pork by slicing the pork into thin rectangular cuts. Then, in a large bowl, mix in pork, cornstarch, fish sauce, egg and a dash of black pepper. Marinate for at least 15 minutes.

     After marinating the pork, dredge them in flour. Make sure it Is fully coated. Heat pan and pour cooking oil for deep frying. Deep fry coated pork for 5-6 minutes in medium heat. Drain for excess oil, transfer to a plate and set them aside for later.

     To cook the sauce, drizzle in cooking oil in a large pan for sautéing. Once oil is hot, sauté garlic then add in onions once garlic turns golden brown. Once onions are translucent, add in green and red bell pepper and stir fry. Pour in water, vinegar and sugar, then mix. Once it is boiling, add in pineapple syrup and ketchup, continue mixing. Add in Oyster sauce and mix well. Season the sauce with a pinch of salt and a dash of black pepper. Add in pineapple tidbits then bring to a boil while occasionally stirring. Make a cornstarch mixture by mixing ½ tbsp cornstarch with 1 tbsp water. Pour in cornstarch mixture then mix well. Lastly, add in fried pork and mix it with the sauce. Transfer to a plate then serve.

What cut of pork should to use?

Kasim (pork shoulder), lomo (loin) and tenderloin cuts are best for this recipe.

What can we use if we chili powder is not available?

You can use chili flakes or a number of red chili peppers. The number of peppers to be used depends on your desired spiciness of the dish.

Tips on Cooking this recipe

  • When cooking, do not make the sauce to thick by adding a lot of cornstarch mixture. The sauce tends to thicken more as it gets colder.
  • As soon as pork is tossed in the sauce, serve immediately if you desire to enjoy the crispiness of the pork.
  • You can add chili powder or chili flakes if you prefer a kick of spice in the dish.
  • Julienned carrots can be added during cooking the sauce if desired.

Ingredients

  • 247 grams Pork
  • 2 tbsp Cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp Fish sauce
  • 1 pc Egg
  • 1/2 cup All purpose flour

  • 200 grams Pineapple tidbits save juice/syrup
  • 1 tbsp Oyster sauce
  • 1/2 tbsp Cornstarch for cornstarch mixture
  • 1 tbsp Water for cornstarch mixture
