A mouthwatering dessert that is so popular here in the Philippines. Sapin-Sapin is as attractive as it is delectable! This Filipino steamed glutinous rice cake is a fantastic afternoon treat or a midnight snack after long hours of working it is soft, chewy, and topped with golden latik.

Dessert is a must-have at any dinner since, as the saying goes, the best is saved for last. It’s vibrant, delicious, and sticky! One of the best desserts in the Philippines. With multiple layers of ube, jackfruit, and coconut flavors, it’s a sticky rice cake with toasted shredded coconut meat on top. It’s ideal for sharing with family and friends.

HOW TO COOK Sapin sapin

     First, you need to prepare all the needed ingredients for this recipe and then mix the glutinous flour and milk then stir it well and add condensed milk and vanilla, then mix again until well combined. Divide the Sapin Sapin Mixture into two bowls, the first mixture add 1 tbsp Ube Flavor, then mix it well. While the second mixture you will put some langka flavour and add yellow coloring on it. Next is the making of latik and coconut oil, you will just  prepare a pan and put the coconut milk and stir continuously until oil comes out and form a latik. After that set aside it. Pour out the Ube mixture on the round baking pan and then steam it for 10 minutes. Then after that add the second mixture which is the langka flavor and steam it again for 10 minutes and after, add the last mixture and steam it again. After steaming it brush it with coconut oil from latik and then put a banana leaf on the top and get a chopping board and put it on the top and flip it. After that brush again with coconut oil and add latik on the top. And now you can enjoy your sapin sapin. 

How many minutes before the latik comes out?

Bring the coconut milk to a boil in a pot that has already been heated. Turn off the heat and remove the sauce from the pan after about 15 minutes of stirring until most of the liquid has evaporated. Put this on top of your favorite rice cake immediately or store it for a week or so.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups Glutinous Rice Flour
  • 3 cups Coconut Milk

  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla
  • 1 tbsp Langka (Jackfruit) flavoring
  • drops Yellow Food Color
  • 2 800 ml Coconut Milk

Instructions

  • Prepare all the needed ingredients for this recipe.
  • Mix the glutinous flour and milk then stir it well and add condensed milk and vanilla, then mix again until well combined.
  • Divide the Sapin Sapin Mixture into two bowls, the first mixture add 1 tbsp Ube Flavor, then mix it well. 
  • While the second mixture you will put some langka flavor and add yellow coloring on it.
  • Prepare a pan and put the coconut milk and stir continuously until oil comes out and form a latik. 
  • After that set aside it. Pour out the Ube mixture on the round baking pan and then steam it for 10 minutes.
  • Add the second mixture which is the langka flavor and steam it again for 10 minutes and after, add the last mixture and steam it again. 
  • After steaming it brush it with coconut oil from latik and then put a banana leaf on the top and get a chopping board and put it on the top and flip it.
  • After that brush again with coconut oil and add latik on the top.
