A Japanese originated dish, chicken teriyaki is a sweet savory dish consisting of  cooked chicken served with a glaze composed of mirin soy sauce and sugar. In this teriyaki recipe, mirin was not used but still gets the taste of the real deal. 

This recipes takes on all teriyaki lovers which can help them prepare their well loved dish with basic ingredients that can be found in the comforts of their home. Enjoy this dish in as easy as pan frying chicken and mixing it with a glaze made of soy sauce, vinegar, sugar, water, garlic, green onions and ginger.

HOW TO COOK Easy Chicken Teriyaki ( Chicken Recipes )

     Start off by mixing  2 1/2 tablespoon sugar, 2 tablespoon soy sauce,  a teaspoon of vinegar, water, garlic, ginger, green onions in a small bowl then set aside. Next, in a deep plate, mix flour and pepper. Season the chicken with salt then dredge them in the flour mixture.

     In a pan, heat oil and pan fry chicken for 5-6 minutes each side. Add remaining soysauce, vinegar and sugar in the soy sauce mixture. Pour it  over the chicken pieces.  Simmer until sauce thickens. Remove green onions garlic and ginger then turn off heat. Remove chicken from pan and slice them into strips.

     Add some water to the sauce in the pan and bring to a boil. Add in chicken slices and mix. Drizzle with sesame seeds, transfer to a serving dish. Serve and enjoy.

What can we use as substitute if green onions are not available?

Shallots, scallions and leeks are best substitute for green onions.

Tips on Cooking this recipe

  • For best results use fresh chicken (not the frozen one from groceries).
  • If you prefer to have a much crunchier mouth feel on your chicken, let it rest for a couple of minutes after dredging it from flour. Fry them once the flour coating forms gooey like appearance. However, make sure that the coating from both sides of the chicken is still full and didn’t stick on the plate where you let it rest.

  • 4 pcs Chicken Thigh
  • 4 tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 4 1/2 tbsp Sugar
  • 2 tsp Vinegar
  • 4 tbsp Water
  • 1/2 tbsp Ginger julienned
  • 3 cloves Garlic pounded
  • 1 stick Green Onion
  • 2-3 tbsp Cooking Oil
  • 3 tbsp All Purpose Flour
  • Salt
  • Black Pepper
  • Sesame seeds


  • Mix 2 1/2 tablespoon sugar, 2 tablespoon soy sauce, a teaspoon of vinegar, water, garlic, ginger and green onions in a small bowl. Set aside.
  • On a deep plate, pour in flour and black pepper, mix well.
  • Season chicken with salt.
  • Dredge chicken in the flour mixture.
  • Heat oil in a pan.
  • Pan fry chicken for 5-6 minutes for each side.
  • Get the soy sauce mixture and add remaining soy sauce, vinegar and sugar.
  • Pour mixture over the chicken and mix.
  • Simmer until sauce thickens.
  • Remove green onions, garlic ang ginger pieces.
  • Turn off heat.
  • Slice chicken into strips.
  • Add water to the sauce in the pan.
  • Turn on heat and bring to a boil.
  • Once boiling, add in chicken slices and mix.
  • Drizzle with sesame seeds.
  • Transfer to a serving dish and enjoy.
