Bagoong Fried Rice Recipe (EASY)

Bagoong or sauteed shrimp paste is a very popular Filipino condiment. It has a very distinct taste and smell and is usually used as a dip when eating sour and flavorless fruits like green mangoes, santol (cotton fruit) and jicama.

Another variety of fried rice with a twist of adding one of Filipinos well loved dip, the bagoong. This delicious rice dish can be served and eaten by itself or with side dishes like sliced vegetables and fruits on the side.

HOW TO COOK bagoong fried rice

     First prepare the sides of the dish by slicing the green mangoes, tomatoes, cucumber and onions then set aside.

     Next, cook the scrambled egg by beating eggs in a bowl, seasoning it with salt.  Heat a pan and drizzle it with some cooking oil.  Pour in beaten eggs and season with pepper. Once egg is cooked, roll it, remove from heat and set aside.

     In the same pan, drizzle some more cooking oil. Sauté garlic then add bagoong continue to sauté. Pour in left over rice and mix well. Add bagoong continue to mix until bagoong is well blended with the rice. Season with black pepper and stir. Scoop bagoong rice in a cup to use as a mold. Pour in to a deep plate. Garnish sliced cucumber, green mango, tomatoes and onions on the side. Slice pre-cooked egg and garnish on the side of the rice. Serve and enjoy.

Where can we buy bagoong?

Sautéed bagoong can be bought in supermarkets, groceries, public market and in some fast food. However, you can also buy raw shrimp paste and cook to your preferred taste.

Tips on Cooking this recipe

  • For best results use loose grainy rice so that it will not be mushy when being mixed.
  • You can also add fried left over meat to add more flavor.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups Left over Rice
  • 3 tbsp. Sautéed Shrimp Paste bagoong
  • 3 cloves Garlic
  • 2 pieces Egg
  • 1 piece White Onion sliced
  • Green Mango sliced
  • Tomatoes sliced
  • Cucumber sliced
  • Cooking Oil
  • Salt
  • Black Pepper

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, beat in eggs.
  • Season with salt.
  • Heat pan and drizzle with cooking oil.
  • Pour in beaten eggs and season with pepper.
  • Once cooked, roll egg then set aside.
  • In the same pan, add some more cooking oil.
  • Sauté garlic then add bagoong.
  • Pour in left over rice and mix well.
  • Add bagoong and continue to mix.
  • Season with black pepper.
  • Continue to mix until it cooks.
  • Scoop bagoong rice in a cup or small bowl to use as a mold.
  • Transfer to a plate and garnish with sliced green mangoes, tomatoes and onions around the rice.
  • Slice precooked egg and garnish on the side of the rice.
  • Serve and enjoy.
